This was taken at 7:30 in the morning – by the time I tracked back through the sand at 5:30pm the poor darling was boxed in as usual with cars parked either side and one horizontally in front of the bollards. (And yes, I do know she’s an SUV – oh do keep up – this is Dubai!)

You can see the new Dubai metro line in the background. And we’re next to a school. If ever I thought I could escape school-run traffic hell by leaving London I was most certainly misinformed.

At first every time I went outside onto the balcony I felt like I wanted to throw myself off but now I’m used to it. Thank the goddess for that or I’d have to give up smoking!

Night time in Downtown Burj Dubai
I would happily show you some pics of the actual Burj Dubai tower, except it’s actually behind the building and not visible from our gaff. Never mind.
