Today’s my last day at work and it’s very bittersweet. Working at BuyAssociation - nurturing it and helping it grow over the last two and a half years – has given me a lot of knowledge and experience. There have been times when I’ve hated it and times when I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Most of all, it’s given me the grounds to be able to go and do my new job in Dubai. I’m just hoping that I’ve gathered enough knowledge and sense to be able to execute my new role without floundering, talking unreserved sh*te and appearing like a dunce to my new colleagues.
Saying goodbye to colleagues and associates who have become friends is not the only farewell road I’m having to tread. I’ve been out every night seeing friends for the last week, and will be out every night until the day I leave on the 14th August. Mixing gallons of white wine with the knowledge that I may not see some people again is not a good mix – I’m sure I’ve cried as many litres of tears as I have drunk!
There’s now no use in having second thoughts – contracts have been signed and people have been prepared but cor blimey, I sure will miss old Blighty. Things I will NOT miss are as follows:
- The weather – yes, it’s really disappointing
- The hot, sweaty and crowded tube
- Mangy pigeons with rotting feet
- Motorways and any route out of London to any of the motorways
- Croydon
- The queue at the post office
- Harvester pubs
- People eating stinky food on the bus
- Da Youth playing tinny ragga on mobile phones anywhere
- Holby City
- The supermarket fruit and veg section on a Saturday
I’m sure there is loads more. There, I’ve managed to distract myself from getting lachrymose - no lists will be provided of the things I will miss.
